Welcome and thank you for joining me for my first blog!
I am excited to begin this journey and a little nervous! Before coronavirus and lockdown my business was mainly focused on catering for groups of various numbers, whether it be a lunch club, celebration, funeral catering etc. I had built my business up over the last 25 years from nothing.
Almost immediately my work stopped after lockdown happened and after a couple of days of feeling annoyed and sorry for myself i decided to use the time wisely, to remarket myself for the current climate, revisit my menus and that led to a new website and then this blog.
In the first 2 weeks of lockdown, I was approached by the charity Food4heroes and asked to volunteer my time to cook healthy meals for the ICU department of Basingstoke hospital. I agreed to do 2 days a week. This was 20 portions of meat dishes and 20 portions of vegetarian dishes per day delivered at lunchtime. I did this for 6 weeks by which time, thankfully, the virus eased. All in all a total of 500 meals were gratefully received. I used tried and tested recipes and offered a good variety of food.
This week i received the thank you card, along with a lovely email from our regional director.
I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside 2 other local caterers in offering a gesture of help to our NHS heroes.
